Single-hand watches

The ultimate in minimalism - a one-hand watch
Legibility and hand-indices balance are design challenges
The Botta UNO is the multiple award-winning watch with which Klaus Botta started his own brand more than twenty years ago. He has gone on to design various single-hand timepieces, but this is the one that started it all.
The UNO quartz, Solus and UNO 24 are all single-hand watches, representing the evolution of Botta's original one-hand watch design. This collection of single hand watches also features a single-hand watch design from Angular Momentum of Switzerland.
One of the challenges involved in designing a one hand watch are, for example, how to make it easy to read time when wearing a watch with only one hand. With a single-hand watch, the key design consideration is the balance between the size and shape of the indices with the size and shape of the single watch hand. We are sure you will agree that the watches in our collection on this page achieve that balance with elegance, beauty and high functionality!

Designing a one-hand watch is more than simply lengthening the hour hand and discarding the minute hand. It is, in fact, quite a challenge to achieve a satisfactory balance between the width and shape of the single hand and the indices around the periphery of the dial.
The watches in this small collection of single-hand timepieces are all perfect executions of a one-hand watch design, yet they all capably achieve the functionality of telling time using only a single hand, while managing to look gorgeous at the same time. I recommend a close look at the Botta Solus, which is made of titanium, and is therefore extremely light and slim.
